There is a new episode of “Criminal Minds” airing on CBS Wednesday night, but before we get to that how about sharing some rather-awesome casting news when it comes to Derek Morgan’s father?
As first reported by TVLine, none other than acting icon Danny Glover is set to appear on an upcoming season 11 episode as this all-important character. However, we imagine that many of you out there are probably all asking the same question: Isn’t this guy dead? The answer to that is yes, he is. That makes the circumstances surrounding him showing up all the more interesting. What is also of note here is the episode’s title: “Derek.” We know that there have been many questions out there surrounding Shemar Moore’s future on the show, and seeing this title is the first time that we have been genuinely nervous. (It’s the same feeling we got when “How to Save a Life” was announced as the title for Derek Shepherd’s death episode on “Grey’s Anatomy.”)
Speaking to the aforementioned website about Glover’s appearance, showrunner Erica Messer had the following to say:
“It’s an interesting role that he plays … The reason Derek needs to call on this protector in this moment and work through some things is really beautifully written by Breen Frazier, and directed by [cast member] Thomas Gibson.”
Note that it is all easily possible that this is all just a fake-out designed to have us worry for Derek, only for him to be okay on the other side. Either way, we figure that we are going to be spending the next few weeks rocking back in forth in uncertainty.
