‘Supergirl’ spoilers: ‘Smallville’ Supergirl Laura Vandervoot to play Indigo

Supergirl -This is the “Supergirl” casting news that many “Smallville” fans were probably waiting for, and it’s now official!

As announced at the TCA Winter Press Tour on Monday, Laura Vandervoot (who is known recently for “Bitten”) has been cast to play the role of Indigo on the series, someone who has played many roles throughout various comics. We’ll keep spoilers to a minimum since there may only be a select few comic-book readers checking on this article, but we would be surprised if the show opts to make her anything other than a villain. With Hank Henshaw revealed to be the Martian Manhunter, they probably have their lion’s share of heroes already on the series.

After her turn as Supergirl on the aforementioned CW series, we know that there was a movement by some to have her play the character once more for CBS, similar in some ways to the movement to get Justin Hartley cast as Oliver Queen for “Arrow” before Stephen Amell ultimately picked up the gig. We understand both shows’ desire to want to be their own animal, and we consider this casting to be a nice little nod to the TV history of the character, similar to how Dean Cain was cast on the show or how John Wesley Shipp recurs over on “The Flash.”

You’ll get a chance to see more of Vandervoot on the show later this season, and she joins a roster of guest stars that also includes Italia Ricci of “Chasing Life” fame as the villain Silver Banshee.
