Golden Globes 2016: Denzel Washington wins Cecil Be. DeMille Award

Globes -

Throughout the entirety of the 2016 Golden Globes, we knew that there would be a big moment coming as Denzel Washington was set to receive the incredibly-prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award as a tribute to much of his work.

So how did the entire presentation go? It started with a moving, powerful speech from Tom Hanks, one that led to a series of clips showing precisely why he was deserving of the role … even though you all probably knew that he was without even hearing about it. He’s an industry icon, and someone who has constantly received awards throughout his career.

As for Denzel’s speech, it was certainly … different? It actually felt very nervous and uncomfortable, like someone who is so great in slipping into others’ shoes had trouble being in his own skin. Maybe it was just something so personal that he did not know quite how to react. This almost in some ways made it better to us than some of the more traditional speeches where the actors go up, grab the award, and go into a long-winded speech regarding everyone they’d like to thank.

The Globes for the most part have been an energetic affair this year, fronted by the always-polarizing Ricky Gervais. We realize that there are plenty of people out there who love him, and at the same time there are plenty who are immensely frustrated with him. This is the sort of situation where there is almost no middle ground and won’t ever be.
