‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12: Kevin McKidd looking to sign new deal

We hadn’t heard anything about “Grey’s Anatomy” ending this season, and based on some of the comments we have now from series star Kevin McKidd, it certainly feels like there are all sorts of plans for the story and the show to continue on.

Speaking to TVLine in a new interview at the TCA Winter Press Tour, the man behind Dr. Owen Hunt confirmed that he is in talks to extend his deal, saying that he loves the show and wants to be a part of it as long as he can:

“I’m not being corny or giving you the party line, but this has been like a family for me … I came in as just an actor, and now I’m directing, I’m also talking — tentatively —about developing something beyond Grey’s for Shondaland.

“Shondaland creates this environment where if you’re trusted and become part of the family then you’re given opportunities to thrive and grow. I don’t see any reason why I would run away from that. I feel very blessed.”

We know one of the big priorities is going to be finding a way to extend Ellen Pompeo as well, since we feel like you really do need Meredith at this point for the show to continue. Still, we’re optimistic. The great thing about the natural evolution of the series is that with so many cast members, no single person is being exhausted by a difficult workload. Everyone has a fairly balanced schedule at this point as opposed to the early years.
