‘The Voice UK’ alum Karis Thomas on Rita Ora’s ‘X Factor’ move, darker side to show
This weekend is the premiere of “The Voice UK” on BBC One, but what we have certainly come to realize over time, though, is that this show is not the sort of thing that gives birth to stars. As a matter of fact, nobody from the series has gone on to be a big star as of yet, and most of them end up slipping back into obscurity. While “The X Factor” is not always great when it comes to supporting stars after the fact, “The Voice” is so much worse. Often winners don’t really have much direction at all, let alone some other people on the show.
For example, let’s look at the case of Karis Thomas. The teen singer is still working to make a living, but she explained to Wales Online that she hasn’t really had much communication with the show and her former mentor Rita Ora (who has since gone on to “The X Factor”) ever since being a part of it:
“After the show it was like you’re on your own, left with no contacts … When I saw Rita Ora on The X Factor, it felt like a bit of a kick in the teeth. I saw somebody else’s dreams come true and mine fell through the gaps. But I’m working hard to prove I can do it.”
One other thing that we feel for Karis for is the idea that someone very similar in Louisa Johnson won “The X Factor” after getting similar hype from Rita, whereas she hasn’t gotten anywhere near the same attention since.
