‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12: Giacomo Gianniotti latest series regular

Grey's AnatomyGrey’s Anatomy” already had a pretty enormous cast, but it is now getting set to expand yet again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show has officially promoted Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca) to a series regular, which allows him to join Martin Henderson as one of the actors to earn this honor for season 12. He’s really the only new intern with a very significant storyline, as he is serving as a love interest for Maggie. However, we hope that this promotion does allow him more of a chance to have some stories separate from that, where we can understand more of who he is and where he comes from.

Does this promotion mean that someone else is going to have to leave “Grey’s Anatomy”? Not necessarily, since there are so many relatively new cast members that they are probably not ballooning the budget out of control. Also, the show was able to have Patrick Dempsey off the books last season after his departure, and we imagine that by the end he was chewing up quite a bit of cash. There is no sign that the show is ending anytime soon, either, though we know that Ellen Pompeo may need to sign a new deal after this season to remain on board.

New episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” will start airing again in February, so we’ll get a chance to see whether or not Gianniotti’s promotion is reflected in any way with Andrew’s storyline. Stay tuned! For now, head over here to see a super-dramatic new #TGIT promo, one that may make you wonder whether or not something truly terrible is happening to Meredith Grey.
