‘Deadwood’ movie has been greenlit, says HBO boss

The idea of “Deadwood” movie has been floating around in the ether for so long now that it is hard to envision that it is actually happening. Yet, that is what some current reports out there seem to suggest!

Speaking to TVLine while at an HBO – TCA even on Thursday, network head Michael Lombardo made it clear that he and show creator David Milch have put everything in place in order for this to happen:

“David has our commitment that we are going to do it … He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen.”

This does not mean that the project is happening right away. Milch is reportedly working on another project at present, and once he is through with that he will work to resolve a show that never quite got the ending that it deserved so many years ago. The creator is confident that he can get the majority of the cast back onboard for the movie, as well, and Lombardo is leaving that up to him to accomplish.

Ultimately, this is a cause for celebration even if you don’t watch “Deadwood,” since this is yet another shred of evidence that “canceled” does not mean that your show is over forever. For people out there who love “Hannibal” or any other show that was gone far too soon, maybe there’s still a chance that you could see it again someday, even if it is just for a one-off.

Excited to see a “Deadwood” movie, or do you really care about this idea at all? Either way, we want to hear from you in the comments!
