‘The X Factor’ UK winner Louisa Johnson stays positive in spite of ‘Forever Young’ disappointment

Louisa -

To say that December has been a roller-coaster for Louisa Johnson is probably an understatement. She was declared the winner of “The X Factor” this season, but her winner’s single “Forever Young” was the biggest sales disappointment arguably in the history of the show. She has failed to chart higher than #9, and is one of only three winners to not have a #1 after the show. Sure, there were some rule changes that made matters more difficult for her, but even if the rules were the same she wouldn’t have come close to topping the charts.

It is understandable if the 17-year old was feeling some disappointment after not getting what she wanted out of this first song. However, she already seems intent on proving the doubters wrong and making more music that she wants to make. (We assume that this does not entail more slow covers of Bob Dylan hits.) Take a look at her latest comments per the Mirror:

“I am young and I want to portray myself in a fun you way I think it is a case of me going to the studio and trying things out, and they work, and if they don’t they don’t I will have to keep trying.”

We do still think that there is a chance Louisa could become one of the bigger stars in British music, but it’s not going to have anything to do with “The X Factor.” Instead, she needs to find great songs that would help her become a star even if she wasn’t on the show. This is the template now rather than rushing out an album … or at least it could be. We’d love to see her get the Ella Henderson treatment, where she is cultivated over time so that when she does launch a new album, she has a few hits in her arsenal.
