Is ‘Top Chef: California’ episode 5 new tonight on Bravo?

We’ve been spending the past few weeks getting immersed into “Top Chef: California,” which we’ve found for the most part so far to be an extremely fun and engaging batch of episodes for the show. While we’re not entirely sure that we’d say just yet that they are the best we’ve ever seen in the franchise, they’ve given us at least a variety of interesting locations and contestants we can root for. It’s what you really hope for in an edition of this show.

Unfortunately, you’re not going to be seeing any more of the series for a little while. Despite our own hopes that Bravo would choose to air new episodes on December 24 and December 31, the network decided that ultimately, they really did not want to put themselves into a situation where they are airing against major holidays. Pretty understandable.

The series will return on January 7 with an installment in Palm Springs that is all about weddings. We’re going to see Padma Lakshmi be the officiant at a number of weddings for gay couples, and of course there’s going to be a need to cook some good food for all of these happy people.

“During the second leg of their Palm Springs stay, supermodel Chrissy Teigen entices the chefs to make their best Quickfire “date” dishes. And in a Top Chef first, the chefs cater a wedding for twenty five gay couples in an emotional Elimination Challenge. Minister Padma Lakshmi officiates, and once the festivities are over, chef Art Smith and the other judges divorce one chef from the competition.”
