‘Call the Midwife’ season 5 Christmas Special: New details, plus a happy photo

Midwife -

The Christmas Special of “Call the Midwife” is just about here, and when it airs on BBC One this Friday, you can expect to see plenty of holiday fun … albeit mixed in with a lot of drama. We feel like you can consider the photo above to be probably a false representation of what this episode will contain. Nothing within this show is ever this happy for so long. (For some odd reason, we love the fact that this episode was probably filmed in the summer, and most of the snow you see was added in after the fact in one way or another.)

The BBC has released another short synopsis for the episode to go along with this photo, and it makes it clear just how much hardship the ladies are going to be forced to deal with:

“Festive cheer is in plentiful supply as Poplar readies itself for Christmas. An unexpected surprise for a grieving mother helps bring the Christmas magic home, while Nonnatus is rocked to the core when one of its own goes missing.”

Now, let’s just cross our fingers that this missing person ends up being okay, and that “Call the Midwife” is not looking to supplant “Downton Abbey” for having the most depressing Christmas Special in recent memory.

Before we conclude, one final complain: Should the BBC really be heavily promoting Miranda Hart still on their official page for the show, given that she has had a very limited role ever since the third season? While we cannot speak for the Christmas Special, we know that she will be MIA for season 5.
