‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Chance the Rapper performs ‘Somewhere in Paradise,’ ‘Sunday Candy’

SNL -Going into this weekend’s new episode of “Saturday Night Live,” we didn’t have much of an idea who Chance the Rapper was. We knew that he was popular on social media and in the underground rap community.

This is the good thing about this show sometimes, though: You get some performances from people that completely surprise you. We really enjoyed this performance! “Somewhere in Paradise” is the name of the song, and Chance showed himself to be incredibly talented. Great rapping, but more than that an excellent stage presence and delivery. Like some other forms of music, we feel like great hip-hop is about conveying a feeling and a story. He did that, and we also appreciated some of the humility he showed at the end of the song. This was a guy who wanted to be there and seemed excited for every second of it.

We’ll be back with a take on the second performance a little bit later, but we left the first one pleasantly surprised!

Update: The second performance is entitled “Sunday Candy,” and it showed more of Chance’s singing ability to go along with his rapping. We knew that he could certainly do the latter without much of a problem, but it was nice to see a little bit more of his diversity as a performer. We feel like through two performances, Chance took advantage of the “SNL” platform to the best of his ability. If you are not known to the majority of show viewers, you would to shot off as many different sides of what you are capable of in a short amount of time. He did that.
