Ratings: ‘Quantico,’ ‘Once Upon a Time,’ ‘The Simpsons’ face effects of time delay (12/6/2015)
We should start this particular ratings update by noting that there has to be a clear asterisk alongside everything that we’re saying. Not only are there some football overruns on Fox that could lead to some adjustments, but the same goes for President Obama’s speech delaying most broadcasts by 15-16 minutes. This is not accounted for entirely in the live+same day fast national ratings.
The winners – One way or another, Sunday is still a victory for “The Simpsons,” who currently have a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Maybe that number doesn’t stick, but anywhere close to it is amazing for a show that doesn’t get anywhere near that without football. In turn, this helped “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2.0), “Family Guy” (1.7), and “The Last Man on Earth” (1.4) all show varying degrees of improvement over the week before.
The losers – With CBS airing a Grammy concert and there being no “Walking Dead,” you would expect more from ABC than what you got. “Once Upon a Time” (1.4) didn’t show any great improvement from last week’s series low, while “Blood & Oil” (0.9) continues to limp towards the finale. “Quantico” (1.1) sunk the lowest of the three shows, and while it does post incredible live+3 and live+7 ratings, it does still have to have a certain contingent of people watching live in order to generate some long-term success.
We’ll have some more numbers to report on Monday, given that “Supergirl” is back alongside the rest of the CBS lineup, and “The Voice” will continue to give you some more competition on NBC. “Dancing with the Stars” is done on ABC still, so it’ll be a quieter night from that vantage point.
