‘Supergirl’ spoilers: Astra will return in winter finale

One of the strange mysteries of CBS’ “Supergirl” has been the presence, or lack thereof, of one of the show’s central villains in Astra. Given that we saw Laura Benanti a few episodes back as Kara Zor-El’s evil aunt, we anticipated that Supergirl would be hunting her down. However, that has not been entirely the case.

Luckily, the December 14 winter finale for the show entitled “Hostile Takeover” is going to feature Astra’s return; not only that, but Cat Grant facing what appears to be this show’s version of the Sony hacking crisis from around this time last year:

“Kara goes toe-to-toe with Astra when her aunt challenges Kara’s beliefs about her mother. Also, Cat is threatened with being removed as the CEO of CatCo after a hacker exposes her private and damaging emails.”

Given that the show decided to make Astra the main villain for this episode, we have to assume that she is more of the Big Bad of season 1 more so than Hank Henshaw and his red eyes (maybe that’s more of a season 2 threat) or Maxwell Lord … or at least so we think. Maybe the show is doing something like “The Flash,” where you had Gorilla Grodd around all of season 1 as a sort of sub-villain who will get some of their own stories here and there.
