‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Ryan Gosling, Aidy Bryant, and something a little bit different

SNL -Our first message to “Saturday Night Live” is this: Yes, we know that Ryan Gosling is extremely good-looking. It is a little bit of a bummer that we could predict precisely how this was going to be a theme before even watching the first few seconds of the promo.

With that being said, we’ll go ahead and give NBC credit for the remainder of this. It feels almost cinematic in its own way, like Gosling and cast member Aidy Bryant are going on some extremely awkward date. We’re not sure that it would make any sense whatsoever if you were to see one of these promos out of sequence, but we feel like there is almost at this point more scrutiny around watching these videos live than doing so in any other venue. It makes some sense for “SNL” to put the focus on them in this way for people who actually plan on paying attention.

There’s a subtle charm and some fun writing here, and it feels like the writers put some effort into the in-jokes. There’s even great chemistry between the two. We usually get the feeling that most of these are just throwaway jokes that the show puts out there as a result of having them leftover from the writers room. It’s nice to have something that is a little bit more organic, and we hope that this is a pattern that happens moving into the rest of the show. There are many traditions with this show worth preserving (“live from New York”); however, there are others that we can easy forget about.
