‘Supergirl’ season 1, episode 6 review: Did the Red Tornado story blow our minds?
“Supergirl” is a show with many challenges creatively, whether it be creating cool adversaries or giving some of its supporting cast interesting things to do.
On Monday night’s “Red Faced,” let’s just forget about how Winn had almost nothing other than being awkward around James Olsen and Lucy Lane during games’ night with Kara … oh, and being asked by Alex to hack into the DEO. The main story was watching Kara attempt to fight the Red Tornado, a military weapon-of-sorts designed by famed engineer T.O. Morrow. We like a lot of what the show did here for the most part with the character. The costume felt like a comic-book outfit, and for some reason we’re still fascinated by watching the classic case of robots taking over. Eventually, Morrow struggled to control his own machine and while Kara eventually took it out, it came at a cost: Stripping her of her powers.
No, we’re not excited about the ending. Every show featuring someone with powers has an episode or two where they lose them, and this is really no different at all.
Aside from Red Tornado, we got a whole lot of meh given that the relationship between Lucy and James probably isn’t lasting, we still don’t really care about Cat, and we feel like the show has already hit on many of the same themes there that it hit at tonight. we appreciate that some more humor is starting to creep in, but this is a story that will probably need some time before it really starts to find the right now. Luckily now that it has a full-season order, it’ll have that time to figure it out. Episode Grade: B-.
