‘Doctor Who’ season 9, episode 11 preview: Peter Capaldi front and center (and alone?) for ‘Heaven Sent’

Doctor WhoIt’s finally here, Whovians: The beginning of the next era of “Doctor Who.” Saturday night’s “Face the Raven” marked a significant turning point for the show, and a chance for us to raise more questions about what sort of series this show wants to be moving forward. We imagine that there will still be adventure and imagination in the final two episodes of the season, but there’s also going to be uncertainty. The Doctor is on his own now, and that sets the stage for more difficulties than anything that we have seen so far.

“Heaven Sent” is the title for the next new episode. Want to see some details in terms of what to expect? Then be sure to take a look at the official synopsis below:

“Trapped in a world unlike any other he has seen, the Doctor faces the greatest challenge of his many lives. One final test. And he must face it alone.”

The events of this episode will carry into the ones in “Hell Bent,” the season finale that will carry over in one way or another to the huge Christmas Special featuring the return of Alex Kingston as River Song.

The promo that aired for next Saturday’s episode tonight featured mostly The Doctor front and center, along with promises that he do whatever he can to stop his opponent … whoever it is. For the time being, that remains the real mystery since we do not see their face.
