‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 8 (winter finale): April and Jackson, Joe and Alex, Amelia and her past

Grey's AnatomyThe “Grey’s Anatomy” winter finale on Thursday night was a story all about couples, with some other relationships thrown in there. The name Cristina Yang was thrown about, we had some possible breakups, and then potentially a proposal to go along with it.

So where should we begin here? How about with the big news that so many of us saw coming, but maybe not tonight: Alex popped the question to Jo! This came at the result of a day full of fighting, but he had already planned it long in advance. The problem is that, given the circumstances, she is not entirely sure whether or not to say yes. You see, the whole issue of Meredith and her friendship to Alex is still coming up; she was even helping him to hide the engagement right!

As for Jackson and April, let’s just say that things are emotional. Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew were fantastic in their final scene together, where April claimed she knew it was over the moment the two last slept together. We’re still hopeful that they will figure this out, though, mostly because of our delusions that for one reason or another, the show is going to give us a couple that actually sticks around. Maybe we’re crazy that way.

Was that the end of the devastation? Far from it, since the end of the episode featured Amelia allowing Riggs to buy her a drink, him now knowing of her alcohol struggles, and Owen starting to open up more about his family. Maybe some characters are making progress, but at the end of the winter finale, it really felt like it was somewhat of a downer going into the holiday season.
