‘Doctor Who’ season 9: Is there still hope (at least someday) for Peter Jackson episode?

Doctor Who -If you remember back a few years ago to when Matt Smith was the star of “Doctor Who,” there were constant rumors regarding whether or not Peter Jackson would ever direct an episode. Why? It stems from comments that he himself made as an enormous fan of the show, which then in turn had the majority of the show community very excited.

So what has happened since then? Not much, but it feels like the window is open now for him to make an appearance behind the director’s chair. Look at it this way: Jackson no longer has “The Hobbit” movies to work on, and could donate some time to another popular property. Meanwhile, the show could use a ratings bump.

Showrunner Steven Moffat was asked for the latest on the quest to get Jackson aboard in a new interview with Metro, and his reply was pretty clear in stating how one of the big problems may just be the difference between TV and movie directors:

‘He’s a genuine big old Doctor Who fan. He’s mentioned it, and then we email him and he doesn’t reply … I think his plan is we all go to New Zealand and spend six months making it and our plan is he comes to Cardiff and makes it in 12 days. There’s that disparity.

“I’m not quite sure what a movie director, that can do anything he likes, gets out of our budget and our schedule. The skill set required is pretending you’re Peter Jackson without a budget.”

Given that Jackson has made many low-budget films before we feel like he would be just fine in this world; the challenge may just be coming up with the right concept, and then in turn getting him in the right place so where he can sit down in the director’s chair.

Sure, we’re bummed that there is no progress being made on the Peter front … but nothing can dampen our mood after getting confirmation that there will be twelve episodes of the series airing again in season 10.
