‘The Amazing Race 27’ episode 7 review: The great train robbery

Amazing RaceJustin & Diana are a curious team on “The Amazing Race” this season. We’re not sure if we have seen another team ever (maybe Rachel & Dave?) who were so dominant, and yet at the same time had so many arguments. Granted, the Green Team is getting along better than Rachel & Dave ever did; we still want to root for them, mostly because there are so many recruit teams on this show that we always want to see the longtime fans pull through.

Despite being at times behind the pack, these two surged forward thanks to a strong performance in the Detour. From there, they also excelled thanks to just knowing how to get to the Hague in the shortest amount of time and without any mistakes. When they’re going 100%, they may be unbeatable … though we do think that Kelsey & Joey (2nd place) are getting the ultimate underdog edit.

For now, the team we’re the most surprised to see doing so well, based on their earlier performance, is Tiffany & Krista. Maybe they’ve taken their own advice now about running their own race and it’s working. Doing the Detour with the jump-rope was a very smart move for them, especially since there was not really any other team of the entire group who may have been able to do it thanks to the physical commitment it required.

There wasn’t too much of note from the middle portion of the leg tonight; instead, let’s talk a little bit about the pretty-intense ending, which really was down to the wire. It all came down to mistakes. Kudos to Denise & James Earl for staying committed and never giving up; even though they made mistakes (waiting for a train that cost them some time), they still didn’t make the biggest one. That honor / dishonor goes to Cindy & Rick, as they got on the wrong tram after the train to go to the Pit Stop in the Hague. They doomed themselves in the race thanks to this one error at the wrong time, and it is a surprising end to a run that was as a whole surprising. We really thought these two were going to be contenders going into this season, but they never could get it all together. Episode Grade: B.
