Crossover November: Would ‘Scorpion’ season 2, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ worlds mold together?

Scorpion -It is somewhat interesting how much CBS loves geniuses, no? Earlier this year, “The Big Bang Theory” and “Scorpion” were even a part of the same lineup on Monday night. That has since changed, but there’s still some connective tissue there in that both shows revolves around a crew of extremely-intelligent people. One group solves crimes, while the other … well, they have fun and both include a popular hot girl that helps the groups be a little more normal.

So is there any situation where these two casts could join forces? It’s something fun to explore in this Crossover November article, though we find it interesting in general that for all of its monster ratings, “The Big Bang Theory” has not done many real crossovers with other shows. The most notable one was a Charlie Sheen cameo back when “Two and a Half Men” was still going with him as a lead. (Granted, we’re not even sure that was a cameo as Charlie Harper.)

The case for it – First and foremost, it would be a lot of fun. Also, the idea of Sheldon Cooper trying to exchange thoughts with Walter O’Brien could make for some entertaining moments, as would seeing Paige and Penny relate stories of being women attracted to brilliant men who sometimes struggle with more of the day-to-day aspects of life. It wouldn’t necessarily have to be a full episode, but you could at least do a small scene that would be good fan service.

The case against it – Here is an interesting one if you really want to get meta about this. Penny previously filmed a part on “NCIS” that was left on the cutting-room floor. “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Scorpion” had a mini-crossover of their own last year. Therefore, “Scorpion” may be a show that some of the characters on ‘The Big Bang Theory” watch on TV, but the characters would not so much exist in real life. Making it happen now would disrupt the show’s space-time continuum.

Also, let’s talk a larger reason: They’re different genres with different tones. While “Scorpion” has funny moments, it’s far more action-oriented and the characters would be out of place. The only way it could feasibly work is if you threw a “Scorpion” character or two onto “The Big Bang Theory” in a small cameo. Sheldon and company, at least to us, are too colorful to cross over to “Scorpion” and the idea of seeing Leonard jumping onto a speeding train or Sheldon hanging from a plane wing is a little too out of the realm of possibility for us.

In the end, this may be one of those ideas that is better in theory than in practice. There are many logistical hurdles, and the shows are performing well enough on their own that neither one really needs to do something like this to get more attention.
