ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 8 preview: Will Mellie blow up Olivia, Fitz’s relationship?

The Lawn Chair -Did you really think that Mellie was done when it comes to meddling with Olivia and Fitz’s life, did you? She is a woman out for vengeance in her own way, and part of that may now come back to the return of Papa Pope to the outside world. One of the weaknesses to this week’s “Scandal” is that it felt almost like the show allowed Rowan to take almost too much of a backseat given Mellie’s move to free him … and this could all be exposed to the President soon enough.

The promo below hints very much at a moment that could shatter what Olivia and Fitz have before we even make it to the fall finale. It’s a betrayal, and an emotional one that the two have not withstood this season. It’s not going to draw Fitz any closer to the former First Lady, but it will leave him in a devastated place.

“Rasputin” is the title for the next new episode. Want to know more? Then just out the attached synopsis now:

“In the midst of Fitz negotiating a historic peace deal, Olivia must rely on her instincts when a guest of the The White House discloses powerful intel. Meanwhile, Jake uses Huck’s help to get closer to his target, and Cyrus takes matters into his own hands when he realizes he’s been shut out of the inner circle.”

If there is a universal lesson to take away from “Scandal” at this point in time when it comes to some of these relationships, it is this: Be prepared for nothing to be firmly in place forever. Both Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn’s characters present so much history and baggage, just one move can crumble them at any time.
