‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 7 review: Oswald’s pain leads to big Theo – Jim Gordon reveal

Oswald -We are not going to take too much credit for predicting the death of Oswald Cobblepot’s mother on “Gotham,” mostly because of the fact that it was one of the most predictable outcomes to this episode in recent TV memory. How would this story not end in a way that had her staying alive?

Getting rid of Oswald’s mom at this point sends him on a bolder, more violent trajectory, and we definitely saw just a small sampling of that on Monday night’s “Mommy’s Little Monster.” In the wake of Theo Galavan being elected Mayor of Gotham, Penguin put in motion a plan for revenge that came close to coming to fruition. While it did not happen, its aftermath produced some results that we would argue are equally as important to the long-term story. Jim now has more evidence that Galavan is not the angel he professes to be, as Oswald told him what he suspected previously about his mother.

All of this was sensational stuff; the show is better when Jim Gordon has a carrot, and he now certainly does.

The side stories in this installment may not be the greatest that we’ve ever seen play out, but we don’t want to overshadow their significance. Silver St. Cloud is getting closer to Bruce, and in doing so, is trying to push Selina further away. It’s one villain going after another! Meanwhile, Edward Nygma is battling both himself and his alternate personality, and in the end the dark side won out … at least for now.

“Mommy’s Little Monster” should be thought of as one of the night’s better episodes. It was not only intense, but also gave you the forward motion that we feel many of the characters at this point needed. Grade: B+.
