‘The X Factor’ UK: Ben Haenow performs ‘Second Hand Heart’ (without Kelly Clarkson)
We learned at the start of Saturday night’s “The X Factor” that Ben Haenow was going to be appearing at the end of the show with his new single “Second Hand Heart.” However, we’ve become so accustomed to hearing Kelly Clarkson on the track with him that it was somewhat jarring to not see her there.
So what happened to Kelly? Well, it is probably as simple as that she is currently expecting her second child, and it is no easy trip over to Britain. Ben handled both parts of the performance and did a solid job with it tonight, though we do probably prefer the duet version as a whole.
Overall, getting Kelly on the single version is a brilliant move for a guy who still needs to prove himself in this industry even after winning the show last year. Not all reigning champions produce hit songs, and you really need to hit the ground running. It was a nice play by ITV and the producers to have him appear on the very first live show as a way to boost the single immediately, and help to ensure that he can push some more sales.
Ben was not the only contestant from this past season featured on Saturday’s show; if you listened closely at the beginning, you probably heard a few lines of “Sax,” the new single from the runner-up from last season in Fleur East.
Ben also made it clear following his performance tonight that he does have a favorite remaining in this competition, and it is none other than Lauren Murray!
