‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17 spoilers: More news on B.D. Wong’s return

Even though B.D. Wong may no longer be a regular on “Law & Order: SVU,” we’re glad that Dr. Huang is still finding a way to show up here and there on the series … even though in the case of the upcoming November 18 episode “Depravity Standard,” it is under less-than-favorable circumstances.

The synopsis below makes it rather clear just how and why we are going to see Huang back on the show, and given that we are dealing with the return of notorious character Lewis Hodda, you really don’t want a formidable opponent on the other side:

“Lt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) seeks justice in the trial of child abductor Lewis Hodda (returning guest star Tom Sizemore), but when a plea deal is rejected, Barba (Raúl Esparza) must rely on decades-old evidence to make his case and faces off against former SVU colleague Dr. Huang (guest star BD Wong).”

What will it look like seeing Barba and Dr. Huang going toe-to-toe potentially in court? It’s an interesting prospect, but we do still hope that they will be able to find some common ground eventually.

Of course, more than anything our biggest hope is that the show figures out a way to set it up so that Wong can return at some point in the future, though we don’t think it will be that difficult. The main challenge could just be finding time, given how busy Wong is going to be moving forward thanks to a big role on “Mr. Robot” and even an upcoming spot on “Gotham” as Hugo Strange.
