‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Monica Michael officially announced as wildcard

Many out there probably saw this coming, and it is now 100% official: Monica Michael is the wildcard act for this season of “The X Factor.” All of the judges worked together to make this decision, and if we had one prevailing reaction to the news, it would be this: Surprise.

Why? It’s not based on Monica’s talent, which we have found immense. It is more that this means the judges had two opportunities to bring in Josh Daniel, arguably the biggest viral star of the season, and have not done it. We think that he had a genuine shot to win. Monica may last several weeks into the season, but we still have to be sold on whether or not she has the winner upset. She does have the screen time, at least for now, to be memorable.

We’re going to get into show rankings for the first time on Friday, but if we were to peg some people right now as favorites to go very far, we’d probably say that Che Chesterman, Louisa Johnson, and 4th Impact are all near the top of the leaderboard. Meanwhile, we are a little worried for Reggie & Bollie of the Groups and Mason Noise of the Boys, who is talented but also extremely contrversial and may not get through because of that.

The other issue with having another finalist? There are now thirteen artists and also only seven live shows this year. Therefore, there are going to have to be several double-eliminations in the event that the show wants to get to the right stage come the finale.
