CarterMatt’s Scare-O-Ween: Can ‘Doctor Who’ provide even more Halloween spirit?

Doctor Who -If you think about “Doctor Who” and holiday specials, there is almost one that almost always comes to mind: Christmas. There are few Christmas Specials that are anywhere near as famous as what this show tends to do every December 25. These combine holiday spirit and major plot points (regeneration, death, romance, and time travel) in a way that few other shows do.

But what about Halloween? We know that this show is an inspiration for many a Halloween costume out there, but what about episodes? We know that traditionally, there have been at least some Halloween-oriented storylines over the years, even dating back to the early days of the show so many decades ago. Yet, this is a show that is more conceptual than traditional when it comes to October 31. Maybe a part of that is thanks to the feeling that almost every episode of this show has an element of the holiday already, whether it be mummies, monsters, ghosts, or other creatures that go bump in the night. The show’s history terrifying children is at this point fairly well-documented.

There is actually an episode of the show even airing on Halloween this year, a rare feat that we do not see on many occasions. It is with that in mind we wish that there were times that the show would do even more to celebrate the holiday than they do.

Want some examples? We’ve got a few.

1. Seeing how The Doctor would react to many mundane Halloween traditions. Isn’t there always some fun in that?

2. Touching on even more iconic Halloween stories, only to then twist them in a way that has not happened before.

3. Maybe getting into a little bit of meta-commentary on how many people out there really want to be The Doctor or one of his Companions. They may not be extremely famous as heroes in the world of the show, but they do have to have a follower or two.

What would your dream Halloween episode be like for “Doctor Who”? Let us know in the comments.
