‘Shades of Blue’: Jennifer Lopez cop drama replacing ‘The Player’ on Thursday nights

NBCFor those of you who were curious as to when Jennifer Lopez was going to be coming to television for her first scripted series in some time, we now know officially: “Shades of Blue” is going to premiere on Thursday, January 14 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. According to TVLine, this is going to premiere with a two-hour premiere, and then after that it will shift over to the 10:00 p.m. slot, previously occupied by “The Player.” That show has not been officially canceled, but you can read between the lines at this point.

This show will be a big vehicle for Lopez, but we have a few things that we are pretty nervous about:

1. This poster below is incredibly cheesy.

2. The timeslot has become known for quick cancellations on NBC over the years. Right now “How to Get Away with Murder” is swallowing much of the competition whole.

3. The whole premise of the show is questionable, mostly because of the fact that it sounds almost entirely like “Blue Bloods” just with different actors in the roles.

We’ll get a better sense of how this performs come January, but for a period of time J. Lo is going to be looking to do some TV show double-duty. Not only will she be taking part in this series, but she also is going to be judging “American Idol” for its latest season, which also premieres early next year. We’ll have some further news on that particular subject as it comes out, so stay on the lookout.

For now, are you even remotely excited for this show, and will the presence of one notable star convince you to tune in?
