TV Quick Hits: ‘The Grinder’ gets full season, ‘Shameless’ season 6 casting, Jane Lynch’s new CBS gig

The Grinder” gets a full season – We’ll start this story with the breaking news out of Fox, and that is that the Rob Lowe comedy “The Grinder” is going to be around for the rest of the season. The ratings are not exactly stellar, but we feel like this pickup comes as a result of two things: The ratings for Fox are pretty terrible as a whole outside of “Empire,” and critics really are enjoying the idea of a real lawyer and a fake TV one teaming up.

In a statement, Fox president David Madden passed along the following message:

The Grinder is the perfect combination of razor-sharp wit and relatable family dynamics — two hallmarks of successful comedies … The critics have embraced this original, fresh and funny show, and the talented cast – led by Rob Lowe and Fred Savage — have done such an incredible job infusing it with biting humor and heartfelt moments. We are so excited about the storylines that these fantastic producers have planned for the rest of the season.”

As for some other news…

Shameless” season 6 scoop – Sherilyn Fenn of “Twin Peaks” is joining the Showtime comedy / drama (per Deadline) in the recurring role of Queen, a woman who is the biological mother of Frank’s adult daughter Sammi after the two had sex on a washing machine when they were high. She likes to do many things in the buff, and apparently claims to be an “organic farmer” though most of her money comes from a very particular sort of crop … one that many people in this world love to smoke.

Jane Lynch nabs People’s Choice Awards hosting gig – The star of the upcoming “Angel From Hell” will take on this particular role when the show airs on CBS January 6. The network loves to promote comedy stars in this spot, as previous hosts include Kaley Cuoco and the one-two punch of Allison Janney and Anna Faris.
