‘The X Factor’ UK review: Did Louisa Johnson, Monica Michael, Chloe Paige make Rita Ora’s team?

Rita -

It has been a controversial two days of reveals on “The X Factor,” but it has led us to where we are today: The reveal of the final members of the top 12, courtesy of Team Rita Ora.

We’re going to update this post live, but we’ll start by saying that Rita’s claim that her category is the best is probably pretty valid based on talent alone. However, it’s been a long time since we’ve actually seen someone from the Girls win the show. (Think Alexandra Burke.)

Havva Rebke – Out of the Girls, we thought that Havva had the hardest hill to climb. We still think that. Her voice is good, but her whole “doing the notes with his hands” bit is a little much. She also didn’t have the presence of some of the other people this season.

Monica Michael – This took guts. Performing a song dedicated to your late brother, one that you wrote no less, is something that few people want to do. We wish that the show did more of this, since Lucy Spraggan is really the last person we remember giving this a go.

Chloe Paige – A very good, current rendition of a classic song. This was impressive! Thanks to that, it makes the job of Rita Ora about a hundred times more difficult. We don’t think she will have a particularly easy time picking and choosing at the end.

Kiera Weathers – We probably thought Kiera would be even stronger tonight, mostly based on everything that we saw on the show before now. She is consistent, but is she going to do anything that wows the crowd? Right now, we’d say that we would probably take Monica and Chloe over her.

Louisa Johnson – We feel like Louisa has to be considered a lock at this point. She’s consistently great, and we like that she never has this whole “I’m really nervous” attitude around her. You can tell that she wants to be a star and is going to work really hard to make sure that it happens.

Lauren Murray – She delivered! We still worry about whether or not she can be consistent enough in a live-show setting, but after seeing more of her potential we feel like the right combo for Rita is probably her, Monica, and Louisa.

Results – The first choice in Louisa was expected. From there, she went with Lauren. This created an interesting situation where someone would be getting royally snubbed. In the end, Rita chose … Kira! Honestly, we’re not sure whether losing Monica here or Josh Daniel is the bigger snub. Both were sensational and worthy of a spot.
