MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 9 preview: Jenna and Matty’s prom drama continues

While Monday night’s new episode of “Awkward” did a good job of setting up some of the unusual prom pairings (Jenna / Tamara, Matty / Sadie), next week’s new installment has a very different agenda: Bringing you the prom itself.

Here’s the issue: Not all of the dates that came into prom are going to be the ones necessarily there at the end. Jenna going with Tamara is mostly an emotional bandage for what she really wants: To go with Matty. She just doesn’t want to make the pain of a breakup down the road greater, since she thinks that this is where things would be going if she was to be with him before they went off to separate parts of the world.

By the time we make it to the end of next week’s episode, the odds are at least there of things being more out in the open … though we’re not entirely sure that the future will be set. While there are only two more episodes left of high school, there are still many more weeks to come for the show in 2016. The final episodes will flash-forward to a year after graduation, and show where everyone is and what they are up to. If Jenna and Matty are not together come the midseason finale, there’s still hope for them down the road.

Of course, expect a wide array of other problems to take place at prom, as well … with Jenna spilling stuff on her dress being somewhere high on the list.
