‘Dancing with the Stars 21’ week 6 rankings: Bindi Irwin, Nick Carter, Alexa PenaVega lead
Paula Deen can thank her lucky stars for the switch-up twist on “Dancing with the Stars” this past episode, and to an extent, so can Tamar Braxton. While she stumbled on this past episode, the fact that the scores from past two weeks are being taken into consideration should help her.
While there has not been an elimination between this week and the last one, we do think that there are some notable changes in the rankings … and also stars who should be nervous with the double-elimination looming.
9. Paula Deen and Louis van Amstel (last week: 9) – Paula and Mark Ballas did actually team up to give her one of the best routines that we’ve seen from her this season. However, it’s still clear that there’s a big divide between her and everyone else.
8. Andy Grammer and Alison Holker (6) – We’ve been calling Andy Mr. Consistency for some time, and he remains the keeper of that title here. The problem we’re running into with him is that maybe consistency is only going to get him so far. He has to rise to the next level, and he hasn’t done that yet. It’s problematic.
7. Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold (5) – Alek remains to us a massive wild-card, since we really have no idea how the public is going to vote for him since he’s such an unknown. He’s been very good, but we cannot say that he stands out compared to some other performances we’ve seen recently.
6. Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson (7) – The only reason that Carlos is ranked so low on this list is because he has been “in jeopardy” before. He did completely kill it this past episode, but is that enough to make up for some relative inconsistency before that?
5. Hayes Grier and Emma Slater (4) – We’re still feeling good about Hayes at this point, even if he didn’t necessarily have a breakout dance on this past edition of the show. Given that he’s never appeared in danger before, why would he be now … even if he is coming off a slightly weaker dance?
4. Tamar Braxton and Val Chmerkovskiy (3) – This is about the same that we’re feeling about Tamar right now. We feel like ultimately, her body of work overall is so strong that it will help to carry her through to the next phase of the competition. If the public really is going to penalize her for one dance, it’d be one of the most unfortunate things to happen this season.
3. Alexa PenaVega and Mark Ballas (8) – With there being such a little margin between most of the acts on the show at this point, this is really just how much and how quickly things can change. Now, getting the first perfect score of the season has propelled her to new heights!
2. Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough (2) – Bindi just brings fun and energy to anything that she does, and we feel like if you’re looking for the biggest “Breakout star” of the entire season, it’s her. She will have more of a career after the show than she did beforehand, largely thanks to this.
1. Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess (1) – Still, can Bindi overtake Nick’s fan following? It’s possible. We think that she comes off as more of an underdog, but you have to remember still that she’s competing against one of the biggest fandoms in music history.
