NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Gwen Stefani, Selena Gomez prepare for Battle Rounds

VoiceThe Voice” is certainly looking to dip into a wide variety of musical styles for their Battle Rounds on Monday night. You’ve got Adam Levine with a rock legend in John Fogerty, Pharrell with a hip-hop icon in Missy Elliott, and then Blake Shelton going all-country with Brad Paisley.

For Gwen Stefani, the No Doubt singer has chosen a current pop hitmaker in Selena Gomez to help guide her team, and you can see a video featuring the two plus some of the artists below. One of the parts of this that is especially worth noting is the way in which the pairings are announced differently in real life versus how you see them on the show. The show almost gives you the impression that people are all called back into a room on random occasion to learn of each pairing. Not exactly the case. They are in actuality announced all at once, and not always announced by the coaches themselves.

Gwen has some interesting, confident singers like Alex Kandel, Kota Wade, Korin Bukowski, and Ellie Lawrence. The thing that we worry more about is whether or not any of them will get the entire “Voice” fandom behind them in support. A female coach has never won this show, and while there is a certain element of chance in that, it’s starting to look less and less now like chance is the reason why. Hopefully, this is a season that can turn things around.
