‘The Leftovers’ season 2, episode 3 preview: The Guilty Remnant rears its head again

Leftovers -Through two episodes, “The Leftovers” has felt like an entirely different show on HBO. While it may still be somewhat depressing, the storytelling has ratcheted itself up yet another notch, giving us what has to be one of the most thoroughly complex and interesting offerings that we have on all TV. Justin Theroux is killing it, we’ve got a tremendous sense of mystery, and the Departures are really secondary at this point to human suffering within. Patti does not seem to be going away anytime soon.

The promo below is really in some ways a trailer for the rest of the season, but it is still worth it to know that nothing is getting better within the walls of Miracle National Park. The synopsis below gives you some more information, and reminds you that the Guilty Remnant are far from done as a force on this show:

“Laurie (Amy Brenneman) and Tom Garvey’s (Chris Zylka) work to rescue lost souls takes a toll on theirs. Laurie seeks to spread the word about the Guilty Remnant’s dangers, while Tom’s infiltration of the cult uncovers a whole new nest of problems.”

Is seeing them at this point a good or a bad thing? We’re honestly not sure, since they were such a divisive force the first time around. What worked for them was that they were dangerous and sometimes unpredictable, and brought an element of religion to a show that did not discuss that as much as you would think. However, they seem so far removed from Jarden at the moment that the writers have to figure out a way to make them work.
