‘The X-Files’ spoilers: Show boss on huge premiere, Mulder – Scully breakup

X Files -The return of “The X-Files” is coming to Fox on January 24, but New York Comic-Con played host to a panel featuring Chris Carter (show creator) and also star David Duchovny. Were there some surprises? Well, maybe not, but there were some confirmations regarding a few rumors. For one, we are going to see the Lone Gunman again, and the first and sixth episodes will be a part of the same shared mythology and relate to some sort of larger story. The ones in between will be more of the standalone variety.

According to TVLine, the premiere (which is airing after the NFC Championship Game) has a pretty significant budget, and that is in part to really get people excited about the show coming back right away. Here is what Carter had to say in front of the crowd:

“I think we gotta come out and punch ’em in the mouth … We needed to make a statement, and be bold and show ’em that we’re back.”

We anticipate that there will be some pretty big ratings for the return of the show, but if there is one thing that we’ve learned over the past year, it is that nostalgia does not equal huge ratings. “Heroes: Reborn” has not become a major hit, “24: Live Another Day” was solid but unspectacular, and while “Girl Meets World” started off huge for the Disney Channel, it’s now more of a reasonable hit. Thanks to all of this, the biggest piece of advice we can give you at the moment is to temper expectations a little bit.
