‘Elementary’ season 4 spoilers: More on the Natalie Dormer – Moriarty puzzle

Elementary -

We do know that there is much more going on with “Elementary” beyond just Moriarty / Irene Adler, but don’t you have to consider this character to be one of the most essential recurring roles of the series? The problem here is mostly that Natalie Dormer has been so busy, it’s moved this into more of a guest role than a recurring one. We do believe that if she was open more than she is, the producers would be booking her for larger batches of episodes and bringing her in when possible.

The major issue with scheduling goes beyond just “Game of Thrones.” As executive producer Rob Doherty noted while discussing the show at New York Comic-Con, she’s also got “The Hunger Games” (which she’ll be promoting this fall) and then also a movie that she is working on. Here is what he specifically had to say about his hopes to work with her again per Entertainment Weekly:

“Natalie has proven to be as elusive as Moriarty … Actually, we had the opportunity to talk a few weeks ago, to discuss a few possible scenarios for a return… but it presents obviously some logistical problems for us. But we’ll stay in touch and see what we can cook up.”

Dormer interestingly was also at New York Comic-Con for a “Game of Thrones” event, and we do get the sense that she loves playing the part. The issue here is mostly that most of her other projects don’t film even remotely close to New York City, and it is a travel issue just as much as it is finding time to film the scenes itself.
