‘Shiptober: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 may bring great things for Caroline, Stefan
If there is one thing that The CW series is known for over the years, it is certainly not relationship stability. We saw that time and time again with Damon and Elena, who were (up until the departure of Nina Dobrev) our primary will-they-or-won’t-they couple. We’ve even seen it a little bit here and there so far with Caroline and Stefan, though we’re only now at the point where that a long-term relationship is possible.
So what’s standing in their way now, and will they come together on Thursday’s premiere or beyond? These are questions we hope to answer in our latest CarterMatt ‘Shiptober feature.
The case for more Caroline and Stefan now – The big thing that Steroline fans should look toward is that we are in the seventh season, and with Dobrev gone, who knows just how long this series is really going to last for? We’re not sure it will be satisfying to see them decide to get together in what could be a series finale, since we think part of the fun here comes in watching the two plan out a future together.
It’s also not a situation here where these two are just starting to get to know each other. They’ve both been around since the very first season, and they were friends long before the relationship option was ever considered. With that sort of buildup, you can start the relationship now and there is no immediate cause for fan freakout or people being like “you rushed this.” With Elena and Damon more than likely not happening again until a series finale, this is the primary relationship that you may have to play with. Why shy away from that?
The case for waiting – The big one is something that you’re going to see play out in the premiere, or at least at first: Caroline is still in mourning, and more than anything right now just needs a friend more then a romantic partner. If you get her and Stefan together when she’s not emotionally ready, it could be more damaging than beneficial for her in the long-term. Maybe you want there to be the perfect moment for it to happen, or of course it’s also possible that you just ‘ship the two characters with other people and you never want to see them together. That’s the thing with most of these CW shows: The possibilities really are limitless.
