Any Iris West fans out there? We’ve already heard that she will be helping to take on a larger role in STAR Labs on “The Flash” season 2, and to go along with this, we are also going to take a further dive into her past. This includes meeting her mother for the first time.
As first reported by Variety, Vanessa Williams will be stopping for at least one unspecified episode as the key character, though no further details are available at this time. Note that this is the former “Candyman” star Vanessa Williams, and not the “Desperate Housewives” alumni who has another TV role of her own set for this fall. Clearly, “The Flash” loves “Candyman,” given that Tony Todd is going to be voicing the Big Bad for the season in Zoom. We assume that someone else is actually playing the character, but there is not any further news on that for the time being.
So what are we to learn from Iris’ mother? It is mostly an exercise in seeing more of where she comes from, since this character will not only inform us to a certain side of her personality, but also at the same time more of who Joe West is, and what may have drawn the two of them together in the first place. Joe doesn’t get the off-season buzz that a Barry or an Iris does, but without him the entire show falls apart. He’s the glue of the gang, and at times the voice of reason.
“The Flash” premieres in one week on October 6; we’ll have so much more to report on before then!
