‘Proof’ canceled by TNT after just one season

Big news -

While we did recently get some great news regarding the renewal of “The Last Ship” by TNT, unfortunately there is some bad news when it come to the network now: “Proof” has been officially canceled now after just one season on the air.

The Jennifer Beals drama, which did average more than two million viewers an episode, for the most part seems to be the victim of a relatively simple fate: Ratings. It skewed very old, and while many other shows on the network do as well, they have a large enough audience to make up for it. This is a network that is now a little more ruthless than they once were with their decision-making, and now seem intent on trying to bring on some more innovative, buzzworthy shows that will attract a different array of viewers than in the past.

One other problem that we think that “Proof” by and large suffered from was simply a lack of promotion: Unless you were a regular TNT viewer, we have a hard time believing that you legitimately knew that the show was even on the air earlier this summer.

Really, the only silver lining for the time being is that the end of this show means more time for Joe Morton on “Scandal” if he so chooses. Granted, that’s hardly a silver lining since he already had the time to still make occasional appearances, anyway. We always want to see people get as many different opportunities for great work as humanly possibly.
