‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Ellen Pompeo hints at change in tone

Grey's AnatomyFor those of you who felt that “Grey’s Anatomy” was potentially spending a little too much time dealing in darkness in season 11, rest assured that things are going to change. Granted, much of this is helped by the fact that Meredith Grey is not going to be losing her husband again, and she can start to look towards the future. Meanwhile, other characters will not have to deal with the tragedy or any aftermath that comes along with it.

As Ellen Pompeo tells Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, one of the joys of this season in particular is that there is some joy that will come in at some point. Things will lighten up, and maybe we will see some people actually be happy. Of course, whether or not it lasts is a completely different story:

“Doing a show this long, the challenge is to make every year fresh and new, and to give it a different feel to keep the audience engaged. Everyone can agree last year was pretty dark tonally. We were telling volatile stories, and this year we’re going to turn over the soil, and the show has a lighter look. It’s brighter. We’re trying to go back a little bit more to the original Grey’s and have a little bit of a lighter tone this year.”

Hopefully, we are going to have a chance in the near future to learn a thing or two more about just how Meredith will focus on work and her family; we know that she is not necessarily looking for love, and really has adapted now to where she doesn’t feel like she needs that as a part of her life to feel complete.
