‘Poldark’ season 2: Aidan Turner, series writer talk beginning of production

While we already knew that the second season of the BBC’s “Poldark” was in the process of filming thanks to a wide array of on-set reports over the past few days, isn’t it nice to get an official press release from the network itself? This is something that, at least for the most part, other networks do not give you. It shows a variety of different things, with the most notable one being a willingness to be transparent to the public. (Granted, it probably feels more necessary with a network that is public in the sense that the BBC is.)

What is somewhat interesting about the timing of the release comes in the wording. The release, while just recently spread around the internet, features Aidan Turner speaking as though he had not started production yet. Maybe that it is when he was quoted saying the following:

“I love playing Ross Poldark and am proud to be a part of this production. The second series of 10 episodes presents a whole new set of challenges for both him and me and I can’t wait for it to kick off again.”

The network also released a statement from Debbie Horsfield, who is the creative genius behind bringing this program back to life after it being dormant for so many years:

“It’s really exciting to be back in Cornwall for the start of filming on Series 2. Needless to say it will be another rollercoaster ride for the Poldarks and we’re thrilled that that the BBC have given us an extended run of 10 episodes so that we can really do justice to books three and four of Winston Graham’s saga.”

The start of season 2 will of course need to feature Ross and his wife Demelza on the recovery after the loss of their child, and it may show them contending still with the challenge of the police also tracking his down in the season 1 finale.
