‘Dancing with the Stars 21’ spotlight: Are Nick Carter, Sharna Burgess almost instant favorites?

Nick -This season, “Dancing with the Stars” is building a pretty impressive assembly of people who could be contenders, but let’s go ahead and be honest here: Most of them are going to have to go through Nick Carter to win the Mirrorball Trophy. Not only is he one of the most famous people on the show this time, but he also is going to have some dance talent, and he could be someone who draws big scores from the judges.

For more on what Nick’s chances are going to be, coupled with both his strengths and weaknesses, take a look at our latest entry in our show spotlight series below!

Name – Nick Carter

Age – 35

Claim to fame – Member of the Backstreet Boys, one of the biggest boy bands of all time, who were at their peak primary in the late 1990’s. They have continued to record and perform music ever since, and have toured with fellow great boy band New Kids on the Block.

Partner – Sharna Burgess. Judging from what we’ve heard there is a certain starstruck quality to this, as Burgess was a fan of the Backstreet Boys growing up, and this is her chance to actually dance with one of them. This is her sixth straight season, with her highest finish being third last season with Noah Galloway.

Strengths – Nick obviously has done choreography before with his band, even though really the Backstreet Boys did most of their moving about the stage many years ago. He knows what it means to perform in front of a huge crowd, and you have to imagine that when it comes to voters, there are going to be so many nostalgic fans out there sending their love to him on a weekly basis. As we’ve said, he’s easily to us the biggest international star this season.

Weaknesses – There is always a chance that Carter struggles a little bit with the pressure of being the odds-on favorite going into this, or that he has issues here and there nailing down some of the choreography that is very different from what he did on stage. His brother Aaron competed back in season 9, and while we expected him to make the finals, he ended up finishing in fifth. Granted, Aaron was never as huge as the Backstreet Boys were.

Prediction – How do you not say that Nick is anything other than the favorite right now? He’s got the resume, the support base, and a partner who is probably hungry for a win. It was clear to us back in Aaron’s season that Donny Osmond was probably going to be the one to beat, and now we’ve got Nick firmly in Donny’s shoes.
