‘Big Brother 17’ review: Jessie Godderz returns; Austin – Liz drama galore

AustinHow do you awake a sleeping Judas … or at least allow Austin to send up his ridiculous persona to eleven? Well, the simple answer to this is that you make him feel threatened in a Power of Veto Competition on “Big Brother 17” Wednesday night.

First and foremost, let’s throw some major props to Vanessa for somehow being able to run a Jedi mind-trick to make Julia want to compete against Austin in the dizzy bowling Veto, which was a terrible idea for her since it made him feel like he was in real danger of going home. She probably would’ve lost against Johnny Mac, but had things been a little different maybe Austin wouldn’t be so fired up, and would have lost somewhere else. He won, and then had his huge ridiculous wrestling moment with Jessie “Mr. Pec-Tacular” Godderz hosting the competition.

After the competition, it became a huge competition of “who played who,” with Vanessa doing her typical teary-eyed routine talking about how she would never do something to hurt the twins or jeopardize their game. Hey, it’s effective.

This episode was ultimately structured rather weird. The Veto happened super-early, and we spent most of the rest of it watching Austin and Liz fight, Vanessa try to spin her way out of it, and Johnny Mac and Steve sitting back and watching the show. We do think that neither Austin nor Vanessa came off that well, but when the dust settles, he’s probably in better shape just because he’s not the one that told Julia to go against Austin in the first place. Vanessa’s actions speak larger than her words, and now the twins are on the block. Grade: B+.
