‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ spoilers: Kathy Bates on dynamic with Matt Bomer’s character

AHSThanks in part to a pretty extensive Entertainment Weekly cover story, we’ve now got quite a few details on the upcoming “American Horror Story: Hotel,” and we’re pretty thrilled about what it means for fans of Kathy Bates and Matt Bomer. These are two actors you really want to see interacting with one another in some way, and we’re going to get a chance to see that throughout the upcoming episodes.

Bates is going to be playing Iris, the manager of the Hotel Cortez, on the upcoming season. She happens to also be the mother of Donovan, Bomer’s character and a longtime lover of the Countess (Lady Gaga), who has seemingly infected him with a sort of blood virus that allows him to have a frequent thirst for the stuff. He’s not a vampire, but he does at least share that in common with them.

In explaining further why Iris is working at the hotel, Bates told the website the following:

“Iris is overprotective with a capital O, especially now since her son is ill. She wants to be there every day to make sure he’s all right, and she’s very controlling that way.”

By the end of the season, we’ll obviously get a sense of what happens with the relationship between these two. At the moment, we just hope that Bates lasts longer than she did in “Freak Show.” She was one of the best things about that season, but was killed off fairly early in the run.
