‘Faking It’ season 2, episode 11 review: The Felix problem for Karma, Amy
The last time we saw “Faking It,” we saw the friendship / relationship between Karma and Amy at a standstill. Much of that was due to Amy and Liam’s secret becoming out in the open. The two managed to make it through it, but they now face the next big obstacle: Seeing if that actually sticks.
The most disappointing part of the midseason premiere Monday night is that really, Karma’s revelations while with Liam did not really come up other than a passing comment. Instead, the show tackled a variety of storylines within a half-hour, and some could have waited. Take, for example, what’s going on with Shane and Duke, or Theo showing back up for a minute to reveal to Lauren that he did have more feelings for her than he let on.
The biggest plotline was actually about a new character in Felix who was living in Karma’s house all of a sudden. Due to the drug bust at Hester High, her family had nowhere to go and are now living out of their truck while Felix and his family have the house. There was a funny moment that came from this near the end of the episode, as Liam tried to confess his love to Karma when it was really Felix on the inside.
Anyway, Karma tried to hide this secret from Amy by pretending that Felix was her new gay best friend, with the only problem being that he is not actually gay. So, we’re back to the two telling lies once again … which is somewhat understandable but something they should really know better than to do at this point.
Was there some humor in the half-hour? Sure. Lauren trying to remake Hester High made for some good laughs, and Shane forming a resistance to it is probably going to cause some problems for him later. Still, there is still a sense from this premiere that more could have been accomplished. Grade: B-.
