‘NCIS’ season 13 spoilers: The many changes for Mark Harmon’s Gibbs
At the moment, there is no exact timetable for how long Gibbs is going to be sidelined from active duty on “NCIS” season 13. We don’t imagine him spending all season away from duty, but it would make some sense for him to start to adjust to being more in the office, and a little less of him out in danger of being shot again. Maybe he just spends a few weeks in recovery, and he then just cannot resist a certain urge to out and start working the field again.
There’s no real incentive right now for show executive producer Gary Glasberg to tip his cap when it comes to what is coming for Gibbs. Why would he? So with that, what we have courtesy of his comments below via TVLine is a small look at what could be coming for Mark Harmon’s character:
“We’re going to see some changes in Gibbs that are going to throw people a bit … [Mark] is doing some fantastic work right now in just subtle nuances. So, physically, you’re going to see changes. Emotionally, you’re going to see changes. At the end of the day, things that you wouldn’t normally associate with Leroy Jethro Gibbs are going to happen.”
While Gibbs is in recovery mode, you can expect to see plenty of DiNozzo and McGee out in the field, doing their part to fight threats to the United States. We actually like the idea of Gibbs having to learn and utilize some new skills, mostly because we could see it making him a little bit cranky. To us, cranky Gibbs is always fun.

I don’t want them to get rid of Gibbs. I just don’t want every episode and every arc to be about what a tragic sad life the ever angsty brooding Gibbs has. I’m just tired of Gibbs being the constant focus of depressing opportunities for Mr. Harmon to show us his acting skills. There are several really interesting actors who have been virtually forgotten ever since Mr. Glasberg came on board as the show runner. The only purpose they seem to serve is to highlight the current Gibbs tragedy and the formerly varied and interesting show has been turned into a mawkish soap opera about the tragic life of LJ Gibbs instead of being a fun and sometimes serious show showcasing all members of an entire team of quirky but gifted investigators. I miss those days.

You’re aware Gibbs is the main character and the show has always been like that expect for the time when we were given the crappy Mossad-dramas of the nr. 1 drama queen. Back then, Tony was really useless, only good enough to save her ass and then being let down afterwards. Just the punching ball for her agressions, the garbage holder for her mood changes and insulting jokes. Now, Tony is being respected and allowed to finally teach younger agents to become better agents. And he’s in a stable relationship with a woman who admires and respects him. Tony isn’t being used or punched all the time anymore. There are several writers, why are you always picking on Glasberg? Did he do something to you personally?

Sorry to say Pat but the show just wouldn’t be right without Gibbs. They can’t sideline him, he is the show. I agree that Tony should get some better story lines though. I for one am glad to see that they didn’t kill Gibbs off ( I’ve just watched season 12 on DVD in Australia & seeing Gibbs shot was a little distressing ) if they had of I don’t think that the show would have been the same. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for season 13.

The countdown is on and I can’t wait! I like my Gibbs just as he is but I’ll still enjoy seeing these little nuances that GG is talking about. And remember, even if they pick up exactly where they left off, at some point they will fast forward and it has already been four months. I hope to see Gibbs back in action very soon. Love NCIS and Mark Harmon. I never doubted that he would be back because without him there is no show. As Michael Weatherly said, “Mark Harmon is the franchise.” I hope one of the changes is another female in his life!

I really hope that they write Tony some decent stuff this season. He mostly got really crappy writing last year. I’d love to see the camera and stories focus less on Gibbs this season and let some of the other wonderful characters and terrific actors have a chance to shine too. With Mr. Glasberg and the other executive producers calling the shots, I’m guessing that Gibbs will be back in action very soon. Glasberg seems unable and unwilling to sideline Gibbs even for a short amount of time. He has no trouble sidelining everyone else though.

A great actor gets good stuff. Always good to hear. Looking forward.
