‘Switched at Birth’ season 4, episode 12 preview: Josh and Mingo’s awkward conversation

We feel like someone over at ABC Family’s promo department had some fun coming up with the video thumbnail for the “Switched at Birth” sneak peek below. Josh’s face ultimately sums up what may be his feelings about Mingo entirely.

There is ultimately one simple way that we would describe the events of this preview, and it is uncomfortable-and-then-some. Daphne introduces Josh to her new love interest as “my Mingo,” and then he goes on to give him some sort of compliment about his bow-tie. You can see that Josh isn’t really having it, mostly because he may not actually be sure whether or not he is getting a compliment or simply getting mocked. We understand that; sometimes, this is not an easy thing to figure out in social settings.

After Josh leaves, the preview does take on a little bit of a happier tone, as Mingo promises some sort of surprise for Daphne that they go off and do. In the end, it’s at least a reasonably pleasant sneak peek, and one that does have us interested in seeing what happens next for these characters.

With that being said, we should also make it pretty clear that there are going to be some bumps in the road for Mingo at some point before we get to the end of season 4. This show tries to be fairly realistic in its depiction of life, and any young couple will have their ups and downs. It is really what happens as a result of them that will define their staying power.
