Ratings: ‘Mistresses’ season 3, ‘Under the Dome,’ ‘Rookie Blue’ do little to help cancellation fears
Traditionally, there is a simple rule when it comes to one of the major broadcast networks: If your ratings are lower than a 1.0, then the odds are not in your favor of being renewed … at least unless you are a show on The CW, then you’ve got a pretty good shot at sticking around one way or another.
Let’s start here with “Rookie Blue,” which is the show of the group in the most interesting position of them all. With it ultimately posting a 0.5 rating in the key 18-49 demographic for Thursday night’s new episode, its odds of getting to return for another season are not at the moment great … even with it being a Canadian show. There were questions about this show’s return in the first place, but this does little to help.
Ultimately, the same here goes for “Mistresses.” While a 0.8 may be better than “Rookie Blue’s” recent ratings history, this is a show made for ABC rather than an international network. The good news is that this rating is only down slightly from the 0.9 the show drew for a similar network last year. What’s the bad news? The show’s average is still down considerable from season 2; think around 20%. Maybe someone of that is due to viewer fatigue, while the change in timeslot and the loss of star Alyssa Milano likely are playing a factor in their own unique ways.
Finally, let us turn to “Under the Done,” which drew an okay 0.9 rating that only really looks okay because the show does consistently great in DVR numbers. We’re not sure this is anywhere close to what the show needs to be a lock for renewal, but of the three series it may still have the best overall chance.
