‘Hannibal’ season 3, episode 13 (finale) spoilers: The end game for the Great Red Dragon
There are obviously many different ways that you could look at Saturday night’s new episode of “Hannibal,” with one of the biggest ones being as some sort of grand series finale for a show already canceled by NBC. We know that we could certainly choose to examine the show in such a way if we so chose to do so, but we feel like we’re ultimately far too close still to talk about legacy and the overall arc of the series. We know it is one of the best things on TV, but to go deeper than that at the moment would be kind of reckless.
For now, let’s just look at the promo below through the lens of the past five episodes, which have been all about the Great Red Dragon. Francis Dolarhyde is desperate to meet Hannibal Lecter, and has Will Graham has figured out, one of his current predictions is that the Dragon is going to try to consume Hannibal. What better way to become the most powerful than to destroy the one person you feel currently holds the title?
For the time being, the plan appears to be this: Use Hannibal as bait to capture Francis, making it fairly clear along the way to him that he can get some of his former privileges restored if he goes through with it. His time in prison doesn’t have to be that miserable, right?
Well, the twist here is that Will seems to have little to no interest in actually following through on this plan, and specifically wants to use this as a chance to also take Hannibal down once and for all. Will this happen? We’re going to have a chance to find out.
