‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Could the ITV series be revived someday?
The sixth season of “Downton Abbey” is premiering on ITV at some point next month, and it is going to air until at least early November … and then it’ll be back once again in December for the Christmas Special a.k.a. the series finale.
Is it really going to be the series finale? That’s a good question, since there has already been rumors about a movie or this or that. We’re personally against shifting mediums, but another possibility is that someday, there could be a revival! Hey, it’s happened to “Poldark” and other shows.
Speaking per the Guardian, executive producer Gareth Neame made it clear that this is a possibility (and added a little bit of humor to go along with it):
“It definitely is the end of the television show … It suddenly occurred to me that in 30 years’ time somebody could [bring it back]. There’s nothing to stop a whole other generation of people when we’ve all retired. It’ll be whoever owns NBC Universal at that point could say: ‘Well we own this property. We made it 40 years ago and let’s set it on another planet or something.’”
What we wonder is this: In thirty years’ time, will British viewers be curious suddenly about the 1950s and 60s? Is it possible that we could see some of the surviving characters in this era? We think it’s more than likely that they would just give the show a proper remake, but that is a fun thing to think about from time to time.
