‘Suits’ season 5, episode 9 review: Mike and Rachel’s latest roadblock and a surprise return
Can you believe how fast “Suits” season 5 has gone by this summer? It was mere weeks ago that we were first talking all about Mike and Rachel’s early engagement, and now they are seriously planning their wedding … though it is pretty darn clear that it is not going particularly well at the moment.
One of the biggest struggles that the two are facing of course comes back to the origin of the series, and that is Mike (once again) keeping this secret about his past. We’re sure that there are some out there understandably tired about this being used as a story thread, and to a certain extent we don’t blame them. yet, this all makes sense, and we are getting near a time when Mike really has to pay the piper. The longer that he keeps this secret, the more consequences that he is going to be facing as a result. Mike’s blast from his past at the end with Trevor was yet another reminder that for him, he has built a prison and he has to be prepared to stay in it.
As for the firm itself, the latest roadblock came courtesy of Jack Soloff and a return we really didn’t see returning to the show: Charles Forstman. Eric Roberts is back! his presence gives him a chance at revenge, and at the same time also gives Jack further clout in his attempts to overtake the firm with Hardman pulling at least some of the strings. Jessica continues to put on a strong face and she’s a fighter, but these are some of the most formidable opponents she and Harvey have come up against.
For now, the best thing about this episode is that we may have no a situation where most of our favorites are unified taking on a common enemy … at least for the name partners. For Mike, his biggest enemy is now himself. Grade: A-.
